Project Overview

This is a case study in Europe. The client owns a private airport and requested a temporary aircraft hangar that could be quickly erected and later disassembled and relocated. This would facilitate temporary aircraft storage and maintenance.

To meet the client’s needs, Gaxtent recommended an aluminum alloy aircraft hangar. This design not only fully meets the practical requirements for aircraft storage and maintenance, but also offers excellent structural strength and stability.

Compared to traditional concrete or steel hangars, aluminum alloy hangars offer a competitive price point and lower overall construction costs. Furthermore, they can be quickly erected and flexibly relocated, saving the client significant time and operating costs.

Client Requirements

The client, an aviation services company specializing in business jet leasing and maintenance, had the following key requirements:

  • Short erection period—installation and commissioning required within two weeks;
  • Strong structure—resistant to strong winter winds and snow;
  • Large interior space—capable of accommodating two business jets and maintenance equipment;
  • High portability—facilitating disassembly and relocation to other airports.

Gaxtent Solution

The Gaxtent team custom-designed a modular temporary aluminum hangar for the client. The main structure utilizes a 6061/T6 high-strength aluminum alloy frame and a double-layer PVC membrane roof. The overall structure is lightweight yet exceptionally strong, ensuring safety while enabling efficient construction and long-term use. Highlights of the solution include:

  • Lightweight, high-strength construction ensures long-term safety;
  • The combination of corrugated aluminum sheeting and PVC tarpaulin provides windproof, waterproof, and thermal insulation;
  • A large electric sliding door system facilitates aircraft access;
  • Optional ventilation and lighting systems meet daily maintenance needs.

The entire hangar was installed in 10 days by a team of only six people, perfectly meeting the client’s schedule.

Unlike traditional steel hangars, which are difficult to move once built, aluminum hangars feature a modular design and can be disassembled and assembled over 10 times.

Low Maintenance Costs, with a Lifespan of Over 20 Years

The double-layer PVC tarpaulin is treated with waterproof, mildew-proof, and UV-resistant materials, ensuring stability in high-temperature, humid, and windy environments.

With proper maintenance, the tarpaulin has a lifespan of over 10 years, and the aluminum alloy frame can last over 20 years, significantly reducing ongoing maintenance and replacement costs.
